There needs to be a convenient alternative. I mostly use a computer to look at the internet, play videos, and play games. Linux is too fragmented, if I ask three different people to recommend a flavour of Linux, I'll get three different answers, all of which will involve jumping through some hoops to get things even vaguely working. If this steam os thing becomes compatible with most modern games, that'll take care of 90% of PC users, but there's always going to be some hurdle for everyone else.
