Right, I reckon that's more or less how he does it. Again, I don't have any interest to ask him about it in detail, but if it lines up with how you know other people do it, then it's more than likely close enough.
>Also, out of curiosity, what's the airsoft scene in Costa Rica like?
My interest lies more in collecting replicas of weapons I find cool for one reason or another, so I haven't been too keen on investigating actual events around here. That said, based on what I've found during my occasional research on airsoft, the community ranges from extremely small to borderline nonexistent.
That probably comes down to two factors:
1. The cost of the hobby in general is astronomically high because you can't just go to your local Walmart to buy a $30 BB gun for shits and giggles, specially not for licensed/branded replicas. Your only options are contacting people like this guy I know, who clearly has to make a profit somehow so for example, if you want a $100 pistol from Evike, he'll mark it up to be roughly $200 in our currency. The price increase is approximately +100% in most cases just because the process of importing them is such an asspain, and I'm fairly certain actually selling them too is in a bit of a gray area legally. For instance, I don't think he's ever asked me for my age or ID, even though it should be limited to +18.
2. As I've mentioned, all "shooting devices" are heavily regulated unless they're literal toys like Nerf guns or similar shit, and real firearms are practically reserved for law enforcement. You can get a carry permit but it's a convoluted process and you'll be lucky if you can carry a small self defense pistol/revolver by the end, let alone purchase a big caliber rifle. This has lead to more than one group of airsofters to just fizzle out over time because the barrier of entry is so restrictive and expensive that the average guy will never bother to take up the hobby. It is for all intents and purposes a hobby for the wealthy.
