I was raised by my mom I circumvented her by the time I was like 8.
Never had a bed time never did homework, would play Nintendo 64 or PS2 or counterstrike 1.3 til 4 in the morning and go to school at 8, never ate my lunches and would shoplift pastries and soda from the shop next to the school.
I would exploit the separation from my dad and tell him everything was fine and only dealt with his anger around the time it came for him to check my yearly report cards.
Never really stood up as much as manipulated them against each other.
