Continuing from my Tomoko post above, animation is more important than making your own models. But you should still learn how to make your own models after you're good at animating. But in order to make good models, you'll need to learn some basic anatomy so your models don't look completely fucked. Honestly, creating models is its own complicated process. A "cheat" is to learn how to sculpt and rig heads (still hard to do) and then just graft the heads onto existing bodies. Less work that way.
>should you do renders, or animations?
Both, but this ain't the early 2010's anymore. The focus should be on animations, with renders tiding people over until your next animation. Renders are good for pose and lighting experimentation. But if you want to make money, you'll need to animate.

I suppose, though, going into this with the goal of making money is a bad idea. ESPECIALLY if you're starting from scratch. You really need to go into this because you want to see something, and no one else is making it. That's why you should just assume it'll take a year (minimum) before people care about your work enough to pay for it.

As for advancements in AI, it's hard to say what that'll be like in 2/4/6+ years. I think once the average person has a GPU with 16gb of VRAM, that's when you'll see another gigantic explosion in AI image and video generation. I expect that to take 2-4 years. Think of AI like a really nice camera. A really nice camera can take amazing pictures, but it still needs a human "pilot" to do so. AI eventually will be able to make amazing stuff, but it'll still need a thoughtful human guiding it. Without that, the AI will only generate lifeless content without any heart. Which in short, will make it unsatisfying.
