How is 5e (2024) from a DM's perspective? Is it a significant improvement to run as DM? It seems at a glance that PCs are made more powerful quicker than before, but doesn't necessarily mean it would better to run like that. I am always running the games, and I'm not much for roleplaying and am light on story. I lean on the mechanics, charts, and maps. So the better resources I have, the more enjoyable the game is to run for me cause I am not good at acting. I have my 5e books and notes back in my home state so I am debating on starting over with the new books. Plus it is an opportunity to start fresh with my setting. At the same time, I just want to continue with what I already know cause it's easier for me to explain and troubleshoot for new players. I would appreciate the input.

People at my unit were talking about DnD. I overheard the conversation and joined in. Now they want me to be a DM because I have the most experience. I've been playing since 3.5 and have played other TTRPGs outside of DnD, but I haven't played anything in 3 years so ok no problem. They told me there's another 5th edition that just came out, which I was unaware of. All 4 of the players are fairly new to DnD and mostly know it through Stranger Things (I haven't seen it). It seems like a fun opportunity to get to know everyone.
