Cranky is never confirmed in game as being the arcade DK in the DKC games. His in game rants are 4th wall breaking jokes mixed with tips. The closest you get to anything concrete is the SNES intro for DKC1, which can easily be taken as a meta joke regarding Cranky's love for the arcade days.
