It's really just so you don't scrape your knuckle or get a nail caught on the forward assist rim when racking the charging handle.
Alternatively there's also rreceivers like the BCM MK2 that position the FA more towards the front of the receiver to clear the charging handle completely. But those don't work with LMT Mars lowers.
There's also the Noveske uppers which also position the FA slightly more forward. Aside from them and Stubborn Mule, does any other company offer something similar? Pic rel.
