It's ridiculously clear that she retconned his race. Even if voodoo wasn't particularly practiced by white people, she has Alastor summoning a demon from Hell to make a deal with them. Surely he might have some interest in the occult practices prevalent in the area he lives? It also wouldn't be hard for Viv to do a little research and make sure that any voodoo practices were treated respectfully. Making him mixed race just makes more issues she has to explain away, surely.

(I do prefer the new design though, but that's down to personal preference and I would have learnt to love his original human form)
