The concept is something that we see in other games like Pathfinder for example, you could introduce more mystical elements to it- in general I was thinking would effectively function as a boost to the base classes mechanics. Sorta like the old Purple Dragon Knight that more or less buffed the base Fighter features, these are just placed into stances rather than continuous boosts to the abilities directly.
Also stances are cool, and can be flavored in a lot of different ways for different styles of monks.
