Former 0351 here, spent a lotta time with the 0331s since we were in the same platoon when in garrison. The US infantry realizes what a colossal force multiplier the medium machine gun is. Using it as a crew served weapon lets you have more ammo, shoot from a tripod, carry a spare barrel, and have a second guy get on the gun if the gunner goes down. It's clearly possible to field one solo but in a platoon or larger size element, you should be running it crew served.
