Ukraine has no capacity to retake any land and the longer it goes on the more Ukraine stands to lose. Each day manpower and equipment shortages get worse all the while EU and the US deliver less and less. As an example, North Korea out delivered all of EU combined in artillery shell production. Ukraine can't salvage a favourable peace deal, but the leadership can't end the war because it would be their death sentence and the more they ignore those, more harsh next peace offers become thus becoming and endless cycle.
Ukraine's hopes were:
Economic collapse following sanctions which failed.
Counter offensive of 2023 which was an unmitigated disaster.
Russian anti war opposition that fled the country and lost much support due to Ukrainian bombings, terrorist attacks and the Kursk incursion.
NATO intervention that isn't gonna happen with active US support, and Baltics and Poland won't dare enter the war without active American support.
Ousting of Putin. Putin will only be gone if he dies or becomes a lobotomite. And whoever comes after him will at at best take similar stances on Ukraine.
