Here's a little lesson for new parents, never discourage your child from making friends unless that friend's behavior is actively harming your child. My father spent my entire childhood telling me that my classmates were idiots and that I was too smart to be friends with them. Spending time with stupid people seemed almost sinful to him, and he was certain I'd grow up to be some power attorney and social success would thereby be magnet to me. He sort of gave up on that dream and told me at 17 that I wasn't as smart as he'd thought. Now everyone I went to school with has great jobs to support their wife and children and I'm still living at home posting on /tv/, only now on the verge of being able to afford an apartment.

I'm 27, I can't blame things on my folks anymore, truth is I am kind of a retard, but having the wind out of your sails your entire adolescence catches up to you. Moral of the story is, you aren't entitled to a perfect child, you should treat his entire life as a series of pluses you contribute to, instead of looking for minuses compared to the ideal child. Especially when it comes to social development. /blog
