The entire point of Ein getting the surgery was to show that traditions could be broken and that the younger generation of Gjallarhorn could think differently after 300 years. S1 ends with McGillis telling Gaelio that he doesn't care about loyalty, friendship, and trust because he's lived in anger. He knows he has people he can trust, he just hates them. And he knows he's able to manipulate Gaelio and Carta precisely because of how much they trust and follow him. He just doesn't care about them at all. Pic very related.
