i only played the first one but it's not as hard as people say it is (actually i played 5 first but got filtered by the first major boss, so if anything the later games seem harder), for half the game you're gunning down fools puttin' em to sleep with no demons on your team. that said the encounter rate is ridiculous especially in the final dungeon which is so long it made me stop fully mapping places (don't do that btw it's totally unnecessary). there's a spell called estoma which removes all encounters in an area until you go back to the overworld, so if you start with 1 you should get that as soon as possible.
