It is not contrarian. The game is passable but it is also another example of reviving the IP and changing it too much. As such it is the worst one in the series for me. I had more fun with every other game in the series when I was growing up. And I had more fun with pic related than AC7 so no it is not just nostalgia for childhood. Pic related is actually more of an Ace Combat game than Ace Combat 7.
