I've been "buying" toys my whole life and actively "collecting" for well over twenty years (the original Armada Optimus Prime was the first toy I specifically hunted for) so I never even entertained the notion of *not* having a giant collection. Though I still do just buy whatever I want, I mostly focused down my budget onto the various Legions lines and G.I. Joe Classified. I have an innate desire to build armies of figures, and those two lines fulfill that goal for both my modern and fantasy army needs. Mythic Legions are especially good for that since they're so generic and customizable, I can buy figures and stick em in whatever role or faction I want without having some pre-existing canon to excuse away.
And yes, /toy/ is a dangerous black hole many will never recover from. Best thing to do is really only focus on the things you like the most and don't worry what other people are flavoring of the month over. And no worries about asking questions, it's a far more interesting discussion then other conversations that can occur here.

Only two, their high price and character selection leave me kind of meh most of the time. But I did grab their first Conan figure since no one else did an accurate Frazetta version at the time (now we have options) and I think he's great...but he's quickly been overshadowed by even the Savage Crucible one. The only other actual Mezco I have is the Hawk P-40 figure, who is great, but mainly I bought him because he's the perfect heavy for my "Cyborgs With Weird Heads and Soft Goods" detective agency. They are solid figures though, and I have no complaints about them specifically. Definitely worth grabbing, especially if you can get one on sale.
