There have been eunuchs that castrated themselves for religious reasons and lived as completely ordinary men outside of that
But obviously for a tranny there's an endocrinological component to it. Someone that not only castrates themselves, but also does everything in their power to become the opposite in attire, perfumes, hair, voice/dialect, pronouns, marriage status, and just straight up claiming to be fucking women, is an entirely different thing.

For ftms we see them often get into situations where some amount of detransition or female identity might have saved them, yet they didn't.
Someone like Mulan became a woman after the fighting was done, sure. But take someone like Marinos the Monk who was accused of impregnating a woman, losing his entire livelihood in the process. For the rest of his live he would take care of this child and perform backbreaking labour to atone for sins he never commited. At any point would it be advantageous for him to come out, yet he didn't.
