But that's exactly what I said in my post, >>149518593. They wanted their toxic yuri relationship, they wanted to be praised for it, but they refused to commit to it long-term. So instead, they just had Mariner be a lesbo in the background for one whole season instead of just getting this over with in one or two episodes.
They refused to flesh out the relationship in any meaningful way but they also made sure that canonically it lasted probably well over a year.
