Lower Decks is impressive because it's the Rosetta stone of shitty 2020s adult animation. You've got the shitty generic artstyle, lesbian shipping (and an almost complete lack of gays because the writers are cowards), tropey millennial writing (quips, found family, obnoxious self-awareness, pop culture references masquerading as jokes). The only people who watched it were braindead nostalgia gobblers and Tumblrite gay shippers.
I'm glad it got canceled but it's shitty that it went as long as it did because it was attached to a popular IP, whereas original shows usually got canceled after one or two seasons.

I got asked who my favourite character is and I really couldn't answer. Each one has their own unique and subtle quirks that always made me smile and laugh. Except for the Andorian chick, I felt pretty neutral about that character. I usually found myself thinking 'yeah-yeah, next scene please' whenever she was on-screen. But if I had to choose i'd probably pick D'vana Tendi. Ransom had some of the best lines, and I do like Capt Freeman.

I find it funny that you fags cling to obvious clickbait articles rather than to just watch the show. Mariner being bi? Yeah, guess what? That entire relationship was extremely toxic and they dedicated an entire episode to how toxic and bad it was for everyone involved. They literally spell it out for you how bad that was. Gay Garrack and Bashir? Guess what? One is a hologram, and they're both from alternate universes. Alternate universes where basically everyone is a fuckup or an outcast.

LD was a lot like SG1 and SGA. Shows that knew how to mix seriousness and lightheartedness, and wasn't afraid to make fun of itself at times. Everyone who watched the show actually likes it a lot, yet all we hear on 4chan 80% of the time are the faggots that got plebfiltered by shitty meme trailers and the artstyle and gave it zero chance before shitting on it, or contrarians who intentionally shit talk it just to stir up drama and discourse despite liking the show. The other 20% are a mix of people who actually gave it a chance and realized it's a fantastic trek love letter, but chose to either come out in support of it or kept quiet to avoid getting dunked on by the plebfiltered/contrarian retards.

That isn't to say that all of nuTrek is good, it's not, but LD certainly was. LD, PROD, SNW are all fantastic. STD attempted to course correct in the latter seasons, but the damage was already done. The early seasons were dogshit, being hard carried by select characters who still couldn't polish the turd they were given, but the latter seasons were mediocre to okay at best. At least everyone there got a happy ending. PIC... Yeah, no. That was shit. Based girl Jeri gave it her all and did a fantastic job with the shit the was given to work with, but Stewart phoned it in, as did McFadden. Fawkes and Sirtis did a good job, but Spiner was done dirty by weight gain no one bothered to CGI out. They had the budget and the tech, but didn't.

The only reason it was "toxic" (not really, the relationship has so little screen time that you can interpret it in any fucking way you want) was because the writers didn't want to commit to the idea long-term. Same way how they made Garak and Bashir gay but hand-waved it away by saying it's an alternate universe. It's cynical. You want the good boy brownie points but you're too cowardly to commit to it.

The show is not only completely spineless and desperate to pander who people who don't give a shit about Star Trek, it's also cowardly because it doesn't actually want to commit to the representation it wants to be known for. You brought up Stamets and Culber; I genuinely believe they're better. You find them obnoxious because you hate gay men, but they're genuinely a more fleshed out pairing. They have a story, they have purpose in the show outside of their relationship. It's not just lazy pandering. It's a poorly written relationship but at least it's between actual real people with their own motivations and story purpose. Jennifer is a prop. She exists only to be gay for Mariner for three seasons and then she exists the show because she's not a real character. Just a vehicle for farming engagement.

That's the general weakness of streaming in general where you not only have less episodes per season (Stuck with 10 a year), but they split them up into 2 or 3 parts during that time. It makes it a lot harder to follow characters and their development.
