I have a litre or two of old house paint left from when the house was painted several years ago, but the tin was left in the elements and the top rusted, so when I opened it to use it it basically destroyed the lid. Paint was still fine and I used it on a project, then put the left over in an ice cream container.

tl;dr: What should I store unused house paint in if I don't have the paint can? Plastic ice cream container? An old metal coffee tin? Other?
