Prevailing rumor is that the Lion King flume going to DL Paris was originally going to go here. If you look at the art and style of the attraction they've shown it's almost a perfect fit for this area. Allegedly it was deemed that it would help Paris more than it would help WDW, theme be damned.
Other than that it it's just an expansion plot that may or may not use someday.
