I remember an Italian story where they each started their own phone companies, only for both of them to operate in the negatives, while pic related won big (I can never remember his name, other than him hanging out with Brigitta decently often).
It wasn't quite the today's phone company stuff, since that story still had landlines - where the thing was that you could "combine" prefixes of multiple operators for a discount, so everyone in Duckburg combined like 100 number long monstrosities to save money on calls.
