The problems the A-129 faces were simply that they didn't order enough to make it cost-effective. The Mangusta filled the requirements it had and it did well enough the Turks decided to make their own by own volition and not because of being part of an alliance or treaty like the Eurocopter was.
On the other hand the Mangusta's upgrade program became a whole new helicopter that already flew in 2022, proving that Italy, unburdened by giving a shit about what France or Germany think, can make a fairly complex program work within a reasonable amount of time and make it not garbage.
