I like how you have to rip verses out of context. Paul is literally writing against the circumcisions party. The point was he gave up his fleshly status as a good law keeping, circumcized Pharisee who persecuted the Church to follow Jesus Christ. As a Pharisaic Jew he had confidence in his own works and status, but chose to give it up and count it as trash for the truth.
