Japan is doing fairly well for itself despite getting nuked twice. People live just fine in Hiroshima even. Also, all those thousands of nuclear tests done by the USA and Russia poisoned the ecosystem more than any nuclear exchange would, yet, we still live. You may argue that cancer rates have increased, but treatment also got better.
