My example is Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia - the gacha game just shut the fuck down and while I didn't spend any money on it, I had a ton of characters and weapons

I don't understand WHY you're telling me that Square Enix couldn't just let people download the 10GB of the game that needed to be online to play it offline in perpetuity, experience the story, climb the endgame, whatever. Theres NO Way this costs more to do than they made off the gacha in the game. Nobody has explained this to me that isnt "They... just can't!! Ok!!" I don't give a shit that it costs $100k, they can afford it
