>So a lot of what is "established" could very well be a misinterpretation of the narrative, or straight up false.
As much is implied by many interactions with Skeletons. The ruined books in World's End about Obedience. Iyo, the Librarian and Elder's private conversations with Skeleton players. Armour King, Quin & Dack, the whispers of the BDC Skeletons... they each hold their tongue once they tread into sensitive historical information. Why is it sensitive in the first place? That dynamic alone throws everything into question. The caution could be misdirection. The utterances could be fabrications. The lies could go as deep as the immortal machines please.

With them exiting the world stage the realities of power politics and force of will captures the social modality. Skeletons are controlling a narrative which has been irrelevant for years but is causing tremendous aberrations in the course of social progress. Which is why I think the current factions have more agency than they're given credit. The lack of a cohesive storyline implies the independent actors on the stage do matter and are of major consequence moving forward. And to that end the Guild (more broadly, the empire) are written as the protagonist faction by my measure of the situation. Chris once mused about his concern of if the factions were permitted too much ability to destroy each other the United Cities would take the island for themselves. Regardless of how precisely it was meant I saw it as instructive.

The future of the island and its folk are in flux. Maybe the Hivers win the demographic game by attrition. Perhaps the Holy Nation is forced to face its internal malaise and finally discovers the lost art of creating defensive gear with arm protection. Who knows, the crabs could breed like crazy and overrun the eastern coastline planting the seeds for the rise of the Greater Crabdom. Many things are possible. Except for Moll succeeding. That bitch is delusional and 100% an agent.
