>Kenshi 2 Announcement:Soon (tm)
>What is Kenshi?"A free-roaming squad based RPG. Focusing on open-ended sandbox gameplay features rather than a linear story."
"Be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a warlord, an adventurer, a farmer, a slave, or just food for the cannibals. Research new equipment and craft new gear."
https://store.steampowered.com/app/233860/Kenshi/

>Tips for beginnersLearn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

>>527271554>thats a cute hiverDo not the bugs.
>>527271957>Is there a mod that adds sex and pregnancy and childrenBoth of those things are sexual, and therefore bad. Bad bad bad. Do not breed. Only kill. The answer is "no" and "no", sadly. Wish I could breed my shek cows with my main character...
>>527273142>Starting skelly squadDo post screenshots of their adventures.
>>527288316>Izumi doesn't deserve this...In the glorious 2D world the womanlets suffer. Izumi will never be a tall, sensual, healthy and breedable titty monster. But don't worry - she still has the "sensei" types that will lust after her.
>>527286217 (OP)Someone's recommendation.
Whose the artist of the OP image?
>>527291814Some Latino. Can't remember his name. Suppose you can find him via Twitter's Kenshi tag.
What is early-game supposed to look like? I tried Kenshi a while ago but just spent about 10 hrs wandering around the map getting destroyed by everything I encountered. I never seemed to get strong enough to take on bandit groups and felt very directionless. I guess Iโm supposed to hire people but then it feels like a chore to manage everyone. I wish you could get directions to locations from NPCs. I play a lot of Rimworld and Bannerlord so I feel like Kenshi will click for me at some point, I just need help getting there.
>>527306509Chris the main dev is an ideas guy. Ideas guys must be paired with tard wranglers that will force the ideas guys to finish their ideas properly instead of half-backing everything.
You are supposed to, somehow, figure out that you must bait bandits to the gate guards who will kill the bandits so you can sell their loot. You are supposed to somehow know that you need to train the STR by lugging a dead bandit on your shoulder. You are supposed to somehow know that you must run around weightless to train your speed. The player is SUPPOSED to have the meta-knowledge that he can only get AFTER playing the game. It is very tiresome.
>>527306509I haven't completed the game, but I have opinions and questions.
What start/race combo did you pick? This determines a lot of the early game and matters less and less as the game goes on.
What do you want to do? It's a game where you set your own goals. Goal 1 is survival, then you can have luxury goals.
Do you use mods? I have some minor mods like the one that gives NPCs pocket change. It seemed strange that the only people with money were me and shopkeepers. I didn't think about it at the time, but it makes starting scavenging MUCH better.
My early game looked like mining copper, third partying the wounded after a scuffle and looting the bodies, and petty theft. Instead of dragging bandits to guards I would drag mobs into each other. I started with a skeleton so I don't know the hunger struggle. The only goal I have now is 30 skeletons. 16/30 so far.
>>527306509In Kenshi, it's actually takes no time at all to become an excellent fighter. The problem is that it requires getting your ass beat, this has some risk and you can be beaten way pass your threshold and end up dying. The early-game consists of trying to make training as safe as possible. This means getting armor in the best quality possible, getting one or two recruits to help save others, or just grinding money.

>>527306509I had the same problem but after finding out how to play I got addicted to it. You have to ride the line between cheesing and playing off the mechanics of the game while also putting in your own autistic RP to flavor it. As an example, My first serious successful play through was with the trader scenario and I traveled the wastes getting chased down by every spider and beak thing in the wasteland and taking refuge with any city to heal. Eventually I found reading descriptions that Samurais love Sake and Swamp people make it very cheap so I used the crazy atheltics developed from running for my life to make runs into the swamp and back into the Samurai towns to make some money. During this I met some NPCs that would join for free and some that were specialists in something I wanted to have. Eventually I made enough money to settle and had to fight hordes of hungry bandits trying to kill us all and now, to make a story short, dozens of hours later I'm raiding the Bugmaster's domain with my legion of loyal warriors and settlers while researching the final tier of technology.
Admitedly it is a slog to survive at the start when even malnourished bandits can kick your ass. I think characters should have better stats depending on their starting scenario but if you want an easy start just to get your foot on the door and not feel like you're a hobo you can do this: Go to a town with a good general store and steal an expensive item, chainmail sheets are usually the best and more common then run to a near city of a different faction or a waystation and fence it. Get a trader's bag and buy alcohol that you can profit selling (mos commonly rum to sell for +25% profi at the swamp) then continue to steal and buying and selling until you have a solid fortune and you can invest in recruits or weapons
>>527309587What happened with Kenshi 1 could be put as a developer spending far too long inside their own game. No tutorial? Why bother? Chris knows how to do everything. And by everything that means you better follow in his footsteps or you'll end up going against the grain.
It's probably safe to say most games nowadays are primarily created to appeal to players and generate profits. Look at gacha. That's exclusively made to pander and prey upon losers prone to addiction. Which is what makes Kenshi "unique" in the modern landscape. It doesn't have a clear goal and the dopamine hits are hidden behind weird gameplay patterns which compounded into an aimless loop. No quests? No problem. Chris literally was just devving until the tank ran dry and had his balls twisted by his sister to wrap the shit up and make some real money off the damn thing. What they should've done from there is NOT mentioned Kenshi 2, quietly develop it for 2-3 years, continue pumping out "content" for Kenshi 1, slap a price tag on a DLC or whatever and then announce Kenshi 2 once you have a MVP that meets your PRD. Instead they decided to grab the vaporware baton and run with it until they had a product to show, which they still don't, lol.
>>527317896>should'veWhat you said is rational and future-proof. Which is exactly why Chris and Nat didn't even think about it.
>>527306509>What is early-game supposed to look like?Probably getting money to hire some more party members and get them equipment. Then you find enemies that you can survive fighting, fight them until you start winning the fights, and then go look for stronger enemies.
The most reliable way to make money in the early game is to kite bandits to the nearest city and let the guards kill them so you can loot their equipment. If you started near Hub, there's also a few ruined settlements nearby that you can loot for a few thousand cats worth of scrap. If you started near Bast, you can gather loot the battlefields, just be careful not to get involved in the battles.
When you visit cities, pay attention to item prices. Trading is a reliable source of money, for only moderate effort. If you're a human with all your original limbs intact, running liquor between Hub and the Holy Nation is basically risk free.
>I guess Iโm supposed to hire peopleYou should have at least two guys in your party, for better chances that at least one survives a fight to bandage the other.
More guys than that can make things easier, but it's up to personal preference. I personally think the ideal adventuring party size, if you don't have a settlement to run, is between 4 and 8.
Don't reload if you lose a fight but are still alive, losing fights is the fastest way to train your combat skills.
>I wish you could get directions to locations from NPCs.You can buy maps. Lost Libraries will have more maps.
>>527317896Honestly it's a complete mystery to me how Kenshi 1 was ever released. Everything about the development looks like Chris has no fucking clue what he's doing.
>>527322136Dude was having fun, simple as.
>>527325532What happened next ?
I'm using a test start with an overpowered character to see some stuff. like the mod that nerfs Toughness damage reduction to make it less important. Mega Beep actually got downed a few times by bandits.
Also first time using Martial Village, they really don't fuck around.
>>527327971Comedy and tragedy.
Meet Mimu a drifter who got got stuck in Mongrel do to the hordes of Fug Men but after finding some one like minded in Shryke the two decided to finally leave the Fug but they would not use cowardly means, no running, no sneaking only stand up fights. The last couple weeks they spent fist fighting Fugmen and carring around Iron to get the proper physic and have now begun the next phase of the training hunting the Fug Brinces for sport and profit
The robots are suspiciously aware of the weak spots of humans. The Viera in return become more and more suspicious of the robots.
Fighting through a horde of Fug men what are greats our heroes Cannibals absolutely disgusting new goal find there home land and slaughter them like the animals that they are
>go to holy nation with shek
>paladin stops me to ask what's going on
>tell them we won't make any trouble
>they let me go about my business
wow so racist.
>>527345295And this is why it feels wrong to me attacking the HN. This is also why those with rotten minds hate the HN so much.
>>527345295>>527345816Things like that make me want to rewrite most HN-related barks. Especially the ones for the women since they're ridiculously over-the-top.
>>527346437my favorite is when they say some cartoonishly sexist thing and then immediately follow it up with "blessings upon you, sister!" i once had a scorchlander go off about how it's a woman hating hellhole only to have a paladin interrupt her dialogue to offer a free escort and give her a free ration pack.
>>527346437Yeah and then there's the Phoenix freak out. I think it's bad writing and diminishes a character (more broadly, faction) we should be struggling to sympathize with only to have it stolen away by LOL JK THEY'RE CRAZY BIGOTS! I'd call it mishandled at best.
>>527349434yeah it's pretty terrible. emperor tengu is ridiculous as well. luckily the dialogue is extremely sparse otherwise it would probably make the game unplayable without a mod to remove it. i do enjoy some of the random banter when traveling around the world however.
Saw a sister enter Squin with a flatskin "man" today.
The Shek Kingdom has fallen.
>>527351858He heard that every shek woman is 255cm tall, has a 158cm bust, 103cm waist, 130cm hips, and has U cup tits. That poor gullible retard...
>>527350657Tengu is closer to the realm of character I'd entertain as alright. His pranks are charming and his arrogant out of touch demeanor is understandable when coupled with the knowledge (and possibility of his own overt awareness) of being a figurehead. This and the Guild's concerns about Tengu's ambitions growing beyond their desired limitations leaves the door open for the seeming fool to pull a fast on the merchants. Perhaps Blister Hill *would* make a nice vacation home. Maybe the capitol could be moved...concepts they didn't explore but are there.
The Phoenix did have some interesting bits about questioning his own validity as the Messenger and what it was to be an indoctrinated dictator by no choice of his own. At a glance there's some curious stuff going on here though it is explicitly written to be a pretty run of the mill "thank you for your service, brother" schtick.
All that said, this reminds of a post chain from years ago. Anon was trying to ally with the HN and fought the Shek. He had a bit of a tough time and finally dragged the Shek queen all the way to Blister Hill. He walks up to the Inquisitor with the queen slung over his back and the Inquisitor looks his main female donut in the eye and tells the bitch to sod the fuck off with that nonsense. Anon was flabbergasted. Hearty chuckle.
>>527348384An untentional comedy, courtesy of Nat "I hate men" Hunt.
>>527349434I am still annoyed that there is no option to simply put a nicer Phoenix number 63 on the throne. You would assume the libtards Hunts would love to write this "choose love not hate" route for the HN, but no. They insist that the HN is... le BAD!
>>527352224It would be kino of writing if the player could find Tengu's diary where he admits that he lives in a golden cage and he has to pretend to be retarded, or the nobles and TG will get twitchy.
>>527353023I've been writing revisions to the characters for awhile -- if you didn't notice through my posts. The Phoenix is an especially tricky one to approach because the "just kill him" option is tough to handle without acknowledging all kinds of reverberations of his death. My strategy was to play on slowly pressing for reforms by, simply put, traumatizing the populace through externally imposed crises and increasing exposure to the outside world. We're not talking an overturning of the status quo - rather, maybe fanatical women could end up battle maiden in service of Okran. Maybe the HN revises some of the techno-militaristic limitations and embraces advancements in equipment so their boys stop coming back amputees. And just maybe someone can figure out the answer to the existential question of:
>Why the fuck are we still fighting in Bast?Tengu is one of the neatly positioned characters where the more there is to him, the easier it is to rub off the depth onto other characters. That's sort of what they already did with Longen and Yamdu. Their dialogue lines create a rather large web of interconnected context to why the world is moving in the direction is it (not necessarily how it got there, the past is left murky). We're given a totally different perspective on the Shek Kingdom by Yamdu alone outlining the empire (read: TG, another layer of nuance) are on the hunt for a cutthroat to cut the queen's throat. The busywork of the imperials lays the groundwork for all kinds of subterfuge, sowing dissent and dirty deeds done for devious reasons. I'm guessing you've happened upon one of my musings about Moll being a rather obvious agent for anyone with eyes to see. Nat wanted that girl to be important and I agree, she should admit she's an ex-Jonin Elite up to some serious no good pretending to be something she is definitely not: a caring individual. Behind those golden eyes are LIES!
>>527354302>fanatical women could end up battle maiden in service of Okran.Since the priesthood insists that women are made by Narko's asshole - this will take a while to rewrite for the HN.
>techno-militaristic limitationsThe reason the HN burns the science books is because the Hunts can't comprehend how do the believers think. Modern normies that they are, they think believing in God is like believing in magic. The HN should freak out only about the robotic limbs, in a sense of "brother, how dare you try to become a skeleton?!" instead of "AAAAAAAAAA IT'S LE SKELETONZ WE ARE GONNA DIE!!!!"
>Moll is a glowieYes she is, by her actions - not her words. And the retarded Hunts are still trying to insist that the snow is hot, and water is dry.
>the imageShe would grow her hair out over the years, but yes. Fuck Moll. Cum inside Moll. Repeatedly.
>>527357427>this will take a while to rewrite for the HN.And if it gives you any comfort - it's not so straightforward as the Phoenix throwing women on the front lines. More like Okranism survives long enough such that it spreads and is interpreted with some liberties by outsider elements. I see the state and the religion as somewhat separate entities especially given the chance for populations outside the HN to dabble in and experiment with Okranism (see Preacher Cult for an extreme example). Desert radical converts going on purging sprees in the wake of imperial chaos? Stuff of that nature. Crazy ladies who aren't under the same pressures of the internal HN culture.
In reality though it's a smaller plot device that isn't hard-written to occur. The larger idea is to at least explore topics that never were though could've been.
>>527357427>>527354302>be skeleton squad>run into flotsam ninjas>โare you gonna attack us like the legends sayโ>always pick โAAAAAAAARGGGH DESTROY ALL HUMANSโ >flotsam ninjas never panic like HN paladins despite being probably as devout Okranites>despite the fact that the average HN paladin probably has more combat training than the average flotsam shinobi

Greetings from the wikilands. Another short update bringing good news.
I've somehow survived the worst of the early game beatings of learning web dev, wasn't too painful. Finally moving into building out the frontend of the site-to-be. Still a ways to go on reworking the antiquated templates and reuploading the sea of files over on the Fandom wiki. Lots to do, always is.
Appreciate any feedback or assistance if you're into that kind of autism. Thanks for reading the blog.

idk anything about .net or C# shit but 5000 homemade json/blkx "parsing" and all the core logic inside Button1_Click in Form1.cs definitely seems like Optimal Coding Practice to me bros
think I can at least get the .txt data files needed to generate the sights updated to the current datamine with some manual intervention tonight, but updating it to reliably generate them by itself without crashing will take a bit more work (this shitpile is abominable there's no way to fix it properly without rewriting the whole thing)
>>527368915wrong threda AGAIN
>>527368897Search engine optimization. The Fandom wiki has a rather strong presence on Google. The site indexes but as long as the Fandom wiki is up (and it's not likely to come down) it has the strong promotional backing of Fandom + a history of clicks. If someone searches for the independent wiki it'll be around page 5+, usually.

Will the game go on sale for 9 euros or should i just buy the key for 12 euros
>>527386201Maybe, and depends - do you have the autism to spend 1000+ hours in Kenshi? If yes - make Gaben and Chris a little bit richer. Steam is nice for the workshop - you don't need to go out and look for the lastest version of any mod.
But, your money aren't infinite, so...
>>527386453I am into autistic games mostly, i have the time to spend on Kenshi. I've seen many people compare it to rimworld and it sparked my interest by a lot. I know they are different games but i really like grinding and doing tedious tasks that other people despise in vidya.
>>527386201give Chris 12 euros , probaly will go for summer sales
>>527386674I'll be waiting. I can hardly contain myself because i want to dive into the world of kenshi
>>527386571Kenshi is Sims + Fallout + Wasteland + Rimworld. No Minecraft because the player can't change the land and water, but F12 mods opens some options for building one's perfect Barbie Dream Murderhouse.
f12 MODE, not MODS.
But anyway - Kenshi is fun. Modded Kenshi especially. And the player can change the look of the characters - his own and NPCs - via the "editor" folder in the game files. No mods are needed for that.
>>527387557>sims self explanatory

>>527387890Do remember that the "AI" in the game was made by a bong who had no desire to full-ass anything. He half-assed the entire game. Mods on performance are very much needed even if you have a L337 PC. Mods that try to dig this shin-deep game are also needed. But one can enjoy Vanilla Kenshi for like 20 or so hours. Then the emptiness of this slice of bread will get on one's nerves.
>>527388105I am gonna play with mods of course, since there is a steam workshop for it. I will try to find any qol mods, if you know of any i would appreciate it if you told me.

Is there some way I can use the editor to claim ownership of existing settlements, to be able to build in them? I'd like to revive one of the ruins.
>>527388105What are some essential QoL mods I should install before playing?
>>527397415yes, you can place your town marker over the ruin. if it has its own marker you can erase it and place your own. you can do this with inhabited towns as well although it can cause some odd behavior. it should be fine with abandoned ruins. i would create a backup save just in case.

The Tech Hunters of Mourn leave their gates open and unguarded. Their bodies are strong enough to defeat a sporadic elder gutter that waffles into the city, but if a herd of them pays a visit - the city will be destroyed.

>the Minor Faction Overhaul series is very good, I especially like what they do for Black Desert Ninjas because in vanilla they're just a copy of the Black Dragon Ninjas that aren't fit at all for their environment>Bounties Galore>Thrall Shop
I still don't know why this Arc guy gets gassed up by the Ringed Sabre's description and the boneskins seething over him just because he's good enough to behead the Fraud Golem's head and horns.
When you get to Mongrel, he doesn't even have any dialogue. He's just there. Half-baked. Unfinished, even.
I've gotta take a look at that modding guide and see if I can do something about it, because that just irks me. Imagine if there was a Fogman War planned and they just shoved him and Mongrel out of the oven half-baked.
Kaizo Kenshi also seems to do SOMETHING with the Deadcat faction, considering that it adds in ranger-type squads and a possibility to repopulate Deadcat proper after you kill off Big Cannibal.
>>527459116Arc is one of the stranger things about Kenshi. He's apparently one of the strongest people alive and he's the leader of Mongrel but there's next to no lore on him or how he obtained his position. He's also one of the characters that should have a Meitou but he just doesn't, I mean his name is in the description for the Ringed Sabre but Elder deserves it more?

>>527520963Because Hivers are genetic experiments by Skeletons to replace humanity, presumably combining spider & human DNA to create a self-contained control matrix. Experiments were possibly done resulting in cases like the Bugmaster (proto-Queen pheromones & influence). What are Hivers? Well, I don't know any more than you do, I just read the lore and dialogue. My guess is they were made to replace humanity through a loophole of "human life must be preserved" but "nobody said it had to be pure human life"....and so you get crude demihumans who somehow speak the native tongue running around multiplying like crazy because one bug with a piece of hardware strapped to her makes it so.
>>527520963I think it's just a missing area definition.
>>527522992My theory is that it was the Bugmaster who spliced humans with skin spiders to create the hiver race, though I admit that this is somewhat undermined by the fact that the Bugmaster is a weird naked man who collects teeth and doesn't have anything to say when you attack him.
>Epic games can revoke your game engine licence if your game doesn't bend the knee to their retarded "inclusivity" demands
>They forbid the use of "sensitive" words like "Master" and "Slave" and also gendered or racially charged words... Including words like "Blacklisted"
Kenshi 2 is fucked isn't it?
>>527532998I'm going off the rumors about Bugmaster and the story told about him:
>What he is, eh? Well, me, I heard he's a bug romancer. Yeah, the guy's obsessed with insects. Story goes that he was in an accident as a kid, left for dead, but he got revived and nursed back to life by bugs. Since that day he's had this mental connection with them, they revere him as their king. Crazy stuff you'd only believe if you'd seen the destruction he's capable of with your own eyes.>Some say he's the chosen one, chosen to cleanse the world of festering vermin... of humans...>How about the one where he's a reincarnated bug god, reborn in this land to bring a new era of bugs, to take over the world. Oh that's gotta be my favourite one...Now look at the way the Southern Hive speak.
>Greeee! Fleshy ones!>Death to the fleshy ones!>Meat, meat, meat!>Take it to King! King will love us!On and on. My hunch is that the Cannibals are a precursor to the later experiments which led to the creation of the Hives. The South is what you might call the "intended" form of the Hive with all its intended elements running. That is to say the Bugmaster is to the spiders what King is to the South, i.e., the Bugmaster is an experimental form of King, probably gone wrong. As to the West they may be a form of the Hive without that "King" element, so they lack the centralizing driver for what fuels their militaristic behaviors. So, the West is a kind of incomplete or "economic" form of the Hive which operates in a different mode than the South. It wheels and deals because it...has to? Either way, curious connections between the demihuman races.
>>527535987>It wheels and dealsand just like Gavlan - they enjoy it. And they never think about it, which I think is a bad writing - they should question their way of life if, let's say, TG falls.
>>527536540https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnnau-f9Pus
There is a lot of untapped potential in the trade war occurring between the TG & West. I've been exploring the opposite end of the affair through which the empire captures the river valley and proceeds to escalate the conflict with their commercial rivals.
I'll posit the following:
>1. The Traders Guild is only using the convenience of the Western Hive's willingness to freely trade their cheap goods due to the (multitude of) ongoing imperial crises. If and when the empire seizes the Okranite riverlands they will rapidly shed the need for the West's utility and just as quickly will desire to see their exit from the logistics network. As much is already expressed by the literature spread across the empire.>2. The West is operating in a peculiar adaptive behavioral mode it has come to by the nature of its internal structure and those resultant capabilities (see the lack of a "King"). That intuition of "they never think about it" drives at the heart of the matter. This Hive is following a found strategy which seemingly works but isn't battle-tested so to speak. Pressure from the empire could cause the West to buckle and utterly fold. How the currently passive South reacts (if they do) to this series of events would lead to quite a lot of chaos in the southern imperial territories. We know the death of the Southern Queen *will* induce a widespread invasion from the Southerners into the swamplands and beyond. The West has made a major enemy out of the Guild (and natural enemy of the Okranites by their mere existence). I think the Guild would go all the way with things and not play on isolation. They're ready to kill Esata. Why not the other Queens... once they find them and the stars align, who knows.
>>527538921>death of the Southern QueenEr, Western Queen*. One of the cooler events people don't often experience.
>>527533889There are no Masters in Kenshi, only soldiers of Okran.
There are no Slaves in Kenshi, only sinners that must be Rebirthed.
Say, what's a decent melee defence? I'm training my guy at the ashlands and he's at melee defence 66 is that enough to handle most threats or should I try and get him to be at 70 or even 80?
The Viera have a combined fund of over 1.200.000 cats, and this old hyur woman accuses them of being poor. She needs glasses. The shop does have a large offer of melee weapons, almost best quality on the island. Alas, the trip was a waste of time - the spears used by the Viera are as good as the local top tier weapons.
>>52754618060 is the upper end of a mid-tier fighter. You'll handle most random fights while out and about, but elites like Hundred Guardians or Inquisitors sit around 70-80, unique bosses even higher than that, and even the difference between 66 and 70 is pretty substantial. If you're hunting big game, train up a bit more.

We know it uses Kenshi's FCS, so it can be modded the same way as the first game.
>>527790242>We know it uses Kenshi's FCS, so it can be modded the same way as the first game.A dangerous false assumption. The FCS is above all else a data editor for classes assigned to it. Every single piece of the backend is being rebuilt due to Unreal. Nothing, I repeat, -nothing- about the first game will necessarily be replicated and possible merely because the FCS exists. You might be able to observe some elements though it's far more likely you must use Unreal to make meaningful changes or more specifically await the successor to the FCS to be made specifically for the Unreal mod tooling.
Recruitment is going well a quick trip to the UC and the merry band is already almost a dozen scorchfus strong, a quick pit stop at rebirth and there should be enough to start implementing operation TCD

Also, just to be safe - /vg/ is a blue board. /keng/ USUALLY doesn't have snitches, and the j*nnies rarely come here, but when they come - they can send you on a 3-days vacation. >>527812569And you will, that's how the game handles chunk allocation. Fast zone hopping is intended to alleviate this. The real fix? Unfinished code refactor.
The Shek Outcast never learn their lessons. They attacked the Viera, they got beaten with bare bunny fists, they were bandaged, and they were left to live with their shame. Their equipment will be sold in Squin for pocket change. If Sheks knew about the honor - they would sudoku themselves after such defeat. Alas, they are "honorable" in words only.
>>527798317Is Kenshi unofficially a WEG?
>>527823619>WEGIf only. Chris the bong followed the "traditional" American worldview regarding computer game: "murder is good, sex is bad". There are cannibals. Lakes of blood after a group vs group battle. Limbs are being cut off and send to the lower orbit. But: there are no children. No brothels. No in-game marriage system (there is a modded Las Vegas though). Women can't get pregnant. No female NPC promises her body to male NPCs or male PCs in exchange for anything. Etc etc.
As for the bodily sliders - they can be changed via the "editor" folder in the game's files, in the steamapps\common\Kenshi\data\editor. And the tits in vanilla Kenshi are both small and bolted-on - you'll need mods (I recommend "idle stances") that touch the female "skeletons". And those mods can only give the bouncing effect to tits - the asses in Kenshi are all flat. And there is no "ass slider". One guy tried to add it manually - the game refused to adjust pants for such changed characters.
In short - "no" by the initial design.

>>527840743>Maybe they've been dealing with this shit for a long time?Skeletons have been tormenting humans for so long they ended up going turbo kernel panic retard mode and committed a rather anti-climatic schizophrenic seppuku. No really, having your army of semi-invincible power tools begin to complain about their feelings, kill your entire extended family, then apologize, enslave your offspring for thousands of years, once again recall the concept of regret, obliterate your own civilization and as a reward for your victim's patience dump them into a world of genetic horrors you probably made out of spite and afterwards regress back into "it's their fault" mode.
I cannot imagine why humans dislike these things.

>>527864495High is fine, specialist is better. In a pinch standard quality faction armour (samurai plate/holy nation armour) can work for training, but it's not ideal
>>527862235It depends on what you're doing, how much you're willing to abuse the game mechanics, etc. If I'm trying to train with minimal exploits then I like to send rookies into Bast with decent armour to fight the armies there. They'll get KO'd a lot, but it'll train their weapon defense and toughness decently quickly.
You can train the latter a lot faster by abusing shackles and sending out donuts one at a time into Bast, parking everyone else in Drin while you train, the same can be done at smuggler's bar with the hungry bandit mega mobs, but I find that getting shackles from Port North is the easiest escape from slavery.

Haven't played Kenshi in a long time; but got the itch to play again.
Are the total overhaul mods any good (Genesis, UWE, Kaizo, others?)?
UWE has the most attractive Nexus page (for me) but Genesis has a lot more downloads.
Kenshi has raw meat, vegetable (1 type), cactus (1 type), mutant wheat, and mutant rice. Kenshians don't make soups. Kenshians don't make wheat or rice noodles. Kenshians don't fry or boil crab and fish eggs. The game never shows how exactly the beak eggs are cooked and eaten. And Kenshians - despite being Space Asians - don't make sushi.
The more I think about it - the more I want to strangle Chris for half-assing everything in his magnum opus.
>>527967939Kaizo and Reactive World are vanilla+, Genesis is a bloatmod "made" by an ego queen (male), UWE is a bloat mod like Genesis made by an ideas guy who can't balance anything - but back when he posted his mods separately I used some of them - and they were okay enough. Legendary Kenshi is NG7+. Don't know the others.

>>527719271whenever i tried to look up the advantages of wayland they always mention x11 screen tearing which was fixed a decade ago. they claim greater security but i've never once heard of an x11 exploit and when i tried to find an actual case of an x11 exploit being used i found nothing. they say running as root is dangerous but the entire point of running something as root is to protect it from unauthorized access so i have a hard time taking them seriously when it comes to security, they clearly don't know what they're talking about. benchmarks have shown it to be less efficient so they fall back on claims that it's a new project and will get more efficient over time, which is the opposite of how large software projects always evolve. it seems like wayland is just another change for the worse that everyone jumps on because it's new. there's a retarded idea in the linux world that something that isn't being regularly updated with new features is somehow dead rather than complete. the moment you complete a project everyone declares it dead. totally retarded mentality.

>>528018380Kenshi without the charm. Rimworld is not a bad game and has quite a lot of fun to be found. It's something about being inherently tied to that first map square, the default railroad to base build and the extreme aimlessness of the final third/quarter of a Rimworld playthrough is where the game "falls apart". It's possible to sit down and write out a reasonably compelling late game narrative for the world of Kenshi to follow to fill out the late game. Rimworld doesn't have that same capacity. It's a much narrower experience and has hard boundaries on how far you can color outside the lines. Kenshi being more of a mess plays to its advantage here.

A courier since he was a lad, Karsa was making the routine trip from Sho-Battai to Heft yet again, delivering a letter to a noblewoman there--another in a lengthy affair. Knowing better than to pry, he couldn't be certain--but why else did he only arrive when her husband was travelling?
Whether by a cruel stroke of Fate's brush or the indifferent roll of Luck's die, this delivery was to be his last. As he trotted across the dunes to the unfaithful wife, he noted a samurai party coming the other way. It wasn't until he was within earshot that he saw they were escorting a nobleman, and only after a bolt flew past his ear that he realized it was the cuckold.
Turning tail and running for his life, Karsa didn't dare look back until he had made it out of the Great Desert and into Heng. Seeing no pursuers, he finally collapsed in the shade of a boulder, and let loose his frustration in a tearful cry. Regardless of how misplaced the nobleman's anger was, there was no way Karsa could return home anytime soon. He sulked for hours, and it was evening before he truly considered his options. The sun had begun to set when Karsa finally started south to find the slave quarry. As soon as he did, he found himself too exhausted to walk more than a mile before finding a place to sleep, in the cover of a rocky outcropping.
He awoke feeling even more tired from the misery of sleeping without a hide beneath him or blanket to cover him. Seeing no alternative though, he trudged south. This time, it was either Fate's mercy or the flip side of Luck's coin--he witnessed a band of half-dead wastrels fling themselves upon a caravan, not a league from the quarry. Pilfering a sword from their dying leader, he scooped up a Scorchlander who looked like she might live, and delivered her to the slavers. Walking out of the building, he found himself with newfound hope--a sword and a pocket full of cats was a fine start for any would-be kenshi brave and smart enough.

A random Viera squad is misbehaving in a Grineer Mercenary Base. These two groups usually ignore each other, and Viera don't have a habit of trying to enter closed private buildings, like the hiver caravans. Somehow the entire Grineer base isn't alerted, so the rabbit women are winning, for now.

Karsa's newfound life as a kenshi has proven more challenging and deadly than he'd imaginedโyet tenaciously he plunged onward. Pointed towards a farming compound from the quarry, he continued south and spent the night in a rented bed, grateful for the opportunity to rest his weary legs. At dawn he continued southwards, without clear direction. The pale blue sands of what the farmers called 'Gut' were beautiful, but they were patrolled by 'beak-things', horrid creatures Karsa had only heard tales of before. The massive beasts walked on four legs and had elongated necks the length of two menโwhich they whipped with frightening speed to smash their eponymous beaks into prey. Known for quickly chasing down and devouring anything that moved, Karsa lost his nerve and left Gut to the west.
Whether that was any better, he wasn't sure. At least he lived the ordeal. The area looked fairly normal at first, just dunes with towers of ancient scraps visible on the horizon. As he traveled, he was suddenly blinded by a pillar of light before him. It moved along the ground faster than a man at full sprint, before disappearing seconds later, leaving naught but the haze of intense heat in its wake. These beams of fiery death plagued the region, and Karsa was somewhat relieved to find it devoid of life. Spotting a human-like ruin in the distance, he made his way over.
Within the charred ruin, Karsa found unexpected treasureโa number of fine tools and intricate artifacts made by the ancients, for some purpose unknown. Stashing the heavy kits, he carelessly barged out of the ruins, only to be confronted with certain death. Waiting outside were dozens of headless skeletons, their blackened metal stark against the bright sunlit sand. Their leader approached, emitting noisy nonsense in the crackly voice of his kind, before drawing a massive sword from its back.
What happened after that, Karsa couldn't recall. But he found himself nearly eviscerated in blood-soaked sand in the middle of the night, unsure if he even still lived. Pulling himself along the sand back into the ruin, he bandaged himself and floated in and out of consciousness for at least a day. With the bleeding stemmed and his rations running perilously low, Karsa risked escape under the cover of darkness. Seeking civilization of any sort, he remained vigilant against all possible assailants, and stayed out of sight of all passerby until he sighted a city.
Having continued west, he arrived at the Hubโwhere he sold his looted treasures. With a belly full of rice, he reflected upon the past week and decided he needed to improve himself. An unskilled weakling had no place calling himself a kenshi, and deserved defeat to nameless enemies. Seeking allies to train with, he purchased entry into the ranks of the Shinobi Thieves. The coalition of individuals was perfect for himโguidance and advice without duties or strict rules. He purchased a katana from them, convinced by their praises of such thin blades' usefulness. Now, he's devoted to training with their resources, dedicated to avoiding further humiliation and proving himself worthy of the title kenshi.
Gotta remember to take more screenshots.

Karsa trained in the Shinobis' tower for days, diligently practicing simple strikes of his sword, picking locks, and even the art of a stealthy takedown. Feeling much more confident, he purchased a number of maps and began wandering the war-torn Border Zone, vaguely headed towards the Shek Kingdom within Stenn Desert to the west. He was curious to see how their society operated, and thought they may offer a different perspective on his training.
The Border Zone proved rather easy travel for Karsa, his skills as a courier translated well to the relatively tamed terrain. He was able to avoid the roaming bands of bandits and found the courage to meet trading caravans rather than hiding. Reaching the Shek settlement of Squin, he found himself in awe of the brutes' physiques and the ease with which they handled their oversized weapons. Of course, he couldn't help but utilize some of his recent training to bolster his traveling supplies without burning a hole in his cat pouch.
The martial society of the Shek seemed an ideal way to harden Karsa, so he continued as planned towards the kingdom proper. Visiting a number of smaller way-stations and military bases along the way, he even laid eyes upon the mighty Stone Golem herselfโthe woman towered over her city and momentarily locked eyes with him, sending a shudder through his shoulders. Inspired, he asked the enforcers about banditry nearby, but was disappointed to find out the Shek were uninterested in his helpโthey had things under control. Karsa had his doubts, however, and decided to patrol the Stenn Desert himself. The guard's claim proved veritable, and the only 'criminals' Karsa could find were a band of Shek warriors eager to challenge any flatskin such as himself to a battle to the deathโone that he'd surely have lost.
Lighter on his feet, Karsa outran almost all of this Band of Bones. One, however, was unrelenting in his chase. Ducking behind a ridge, Karsa hid behind a boulder until the enraged Shek passed. Letting his breath out with a gentle exhalation, he crept behind the warrior and brought the hilt of his katana down upon the skull of his foe.
As soon as he began the motion, Karsa regretted it. The massive horns of the Shek forced the blow to come from an awkward angle, and rather than incapacitating the giant he merely stumbled forwards with a growl. He spun around with lightning speed and his massive saber found purchase in Karsa's thigh as he unsuccessfully tried to leap backwards. Karsa's scream of pain became his salvationโas the Shek gloated over him with a sadistic grin, he was tackled by a skin spider. Karsa seized the moment and dragged himself away, leaving the bloodthirsty pair to their duel.
Having limped to a Tech Hunter way-station to heal, Karsa's conversation with the passerby detailed a series of hiver villages north and west, which he set as his next destination. The journey proved uneventful, other than the bizarre rain. Seemingly ceaseless, the precipitation was colored red, almost like bloodโbut it felt like water, not the acid he'd heard of. The village itself was a marvel, a swarm of hivers working apathetically while the soldiers were locked in fierce battle with beak-things. Karsa attempted to aid them, but quickly retreated inside one of the buildings after a stray kick reopened the wound in his abdomen. Sitting inside their factory bandaging himself, he couldn't help but feel the whole thing was a dream. The whole thing was so surreal, the soldiers fighting and dying while the drones seemed oblivious until they were personally attackedโand they were. These beak-things were not going hungry.

In my experience crashes can happen because of:
>mod incompatibility, if two mods just happen to add a new location in the same place for example, it will crash upon trying to load>a mod might also just have wonky performance, like this one mod called Expanded Cities - The Hub that a bunch of shit and three warring factions in the Hub, maybe look over your modlist and see if you got anything that makes radical changes to a settlement, you should always read comments and discussions before installing anything>something like a file just straight up broke for whatever reason, this is the nuclear option but you might have to verify game files on Steam, backup your mods.cfg file before doing so, that's your modlist, it will be reset after the verification, one of the Ashland Domes kept crashing my game until I did this>make sure your modlist is sorted properly, follow this guide https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1850250979After all that, make sure your game autosaves every 2 minutes in the options. >Smelling blood in the air, the Sun Heart Tribe's hunt brought them to a fertile hamlet in a sea of sands. Fields of green bloomed on the crags, verdant leaves crowding around the staked corpses that fed their roots, crimson and veridian blooming in dazzling colour beneath the full moons.
>Their appetites whetted, the cannibals fell upon the farmers in the night, cleaving limbs and feasting on their entrails as they went. The leader of these prey animals, their preacher, soon called upon his guardians and gave prayers to the moons for strength, but he too was brought down beneath their savagery. By morning, their bloodied carcasses adorned their fields instead, and the tribe gave their own prayers to their cannibal deity as they devoured the preacher's heart, growing stronger with his power taken bite by bite.

You've hit one of my favorite chords for lore expansion & exploration. The gist is taking the north and devolving it into a continuous mess with one crises leading into the next until the region is exhausted of any civilized life encroaching.
>1. Over the time the tribal bickering of the Cannibals can (and likely does if not stopped) lead to a unification under the Grand Wizard and a more directed aggression pointed against the humanoid neighbors. This feast first preys upon the vulnerable rebels, eventually pressing onto the borders of the major powers until the war in Bast is forced to an armistice.>2. If and when the Cannibal invasion is dealt with to completion, especially if the rebels are not consumed beforehand, the area is slowly and haphazardly settled by the dispossessed and opportunists arising in the wake of the greatly diminished Cannibals & rapidly opening real estate. This mission to colonize does not pan out particularly well. As quickly as the residents establish themselves in a meaningful manner deep within the plains the smell of something wrong emerges.>3. The enthusiasm is replaced with growing doubt and troublesome reports trickling back to the coastal entrypoint. Sickness spreads amongst the populace. The scrambled world salad turns to slurred, confused speech. The frail begin to fall first. Some stay asleep. Some fight to persist. Is it the food? Maybe it's the water? Could it be in the air? We...have to get out of here. Go where? Anywhere? There's no help coming ish dere? I... feel...sho....Hah...>4. Concern grows to panic. The area must be quarantined. Great evil lives here. And those damnable Hivers gleefully traversing that northern corridor might be responsible...who can say? They certainly never would.

>Four nights hunting in the dark, the Sun Heart tribe picks away at the fortress of the cannibal hunters, chewing up patrols in twos and threes before slinking back into the canyons to feast on their spoils. Bolts and harpoons keep the predators at bay during the day, but slowly, by a thousand cuts, the cannibal hunters are bled dry, their numbers dwindling, stretching thinner and thinner with every hunt.
>On the fifth day a band of rowdy nomads take refuge in the keep, sheltering from the storm. Deep in their cups, a slight is made, an insult taken to heart, and before midday the first of the nomads puts his club through the skull of his fellow man. Iron fills the air, the clatter of blades, the scent of blood. Predators are brought into the light by the stink of a fresh meal. They set upon the once impenetrable fortress, now left exposed for the teeth of a carnivore, and with sharp claws and jagged blades tear the heart from the hunter Robun.

It's been a while since he's fought. That's what he thought back when he was in Mongrel, rotting away with a crummy Fragment Axe.
At least, that was before some albino freak came out of nowhere, with a lot of Fogman heads on his backpack, alongside some scorchie who was with him.
>"This guy's crazy; Makin' me run around in these plates, killing all sorts of things he runs into. An absolute madman."
Something that the old man murmured to himself while thinking about the chances he missed, the wife, who was probably dead by now. Hopefully. That "open relationship" shit only works for promiscuous nobles and no one else.
>"At least I feel strong again."
That he was. He was carrying a brand new weapon on his back, a heavy sabre from the Swamps, used by their beefy thugs. The design had, naturally, trickled its way out of it, and into the lands beyond.
Still, he felt off about this entire ordeal. After all, the head of this ensemble was no ordinary person.
... But then again, who is?
Come on, tell me. I need to make a joke about this before the next group of cannibals comes hollering at us.
>>528461295>[Somehow, still Yesternight]A daring swordsman, the leader of this pack is.
Him and the rest of his troupe were resting in a place not-so-far-away from the famed plains, a relatively quiet village that only got assaulted by migrating cannibals every once in a while.
And by "every once in a while", we actually mean every two hours or so.
Like any self-respecting Cannibal Hunter, he has a nifty blade. One of them Falling Suns, manufactured by the finest of Catun's Scrapmasters.
Lots of heads had to be taken before he could even lay his hands on it, but it was worth it.
His name was Sharpe. Which made for quite a lot of unfunny jabs throughout his entire life. Even more so when he first got a blade of his own, which wasn't as sharp, 'cause it was a refitted one.
The only things in this man's mind right now are:
>"1. Get my hands on those cannibals and their village.">"2. Get something good to drink."As seen here, he's waiting for a drink. The fishermen are either going to give him grog or some Big Fish garum.
I'll get better pics of the other donuts when I pick up from where I left off yesterday. Promise. Trust.

>[Tonight, the Cannibal Plains]
Our fellowship found itself in a feisty melee with the cannibals.
Our HERO, Sharpe, decided to dive straight into the heat of battle in order to cleave down one of the high-ranking members of this village in particular.
As you might be able to see, the scene is quite hectic. Chaotic, even. You may also realise, there's also some other people in here!
>"Die, cannibal scum!"
Truly, an original man, with a very original goal in life. Too bad that the grog served at the fishing village won't be enough to slake his thirst for battle.
One thing to note here. In the majority of screenshots I took, I realised that the cursor was still visible, which I thought would be gone once I was off free-view.
Clearly, I have been played for a fool. Much like the cannibals in here, but then again, these slabs of meat are very chewy. Not tasty at all, eugh.
>>528488873Remember how we... I mean, remember when I said that there were more of these misfits?
This woman is one of them.
In a rather violent visit to the Shrieking Forest, which ended with numerous dead shriekers and many, many looted weapons sold off for maximum profits, two of these bandit leaders were captured and dragged all around the place, until they stopped being irrational.
The Big Red Woman with a Big Club, otherwise known as "Big Clubber" by the group, is seen here kicking one of these cannibal whelps.
As one might know, carring huge lumps of steel tends to make someone a bit... slow... on the uptake. At least she's aware of this fact.
That doesn't mean that she'll get out of this battle unscathed, even with all of that plate she's wearing.
Kind of makes you feel bad for them... until you remember that they'd happily eat you, your buddies, dog, cattle and Personal Hiver Butler alive.

HOWEVER... how would they fare against the never-ending hordes of cannibals? Not very well, I tell you!
Well, at least THEY wouldn't last long out here, but this one? She'll last for quite a while with the group. Provided we don't run into anyone more powerful, smarter, or Okran forbid, RICHER than us.

Working to break my stories into 4chan character limits is way too fucking hard. Hope you still enjoy, but I didn't think about the character length while editing until too late so won't be trimming it down enough to fit into the two pictured posts.
All he'd ever truly wanted was respect from his peers. Always a bit of a runt, as a boy he kept himself fedโbarelyโby pickpocketing the caravan guards and passersby making their way through his hometown of Clownsteady. He'd dreamed of one day becoming a Shinobi, recognized as a scout and assassin worthy of others' fearโafter all, that too was a form of respect. Of course, none of them would consort with some pissant like him, at least not without coughing up a membership fee. Aware he'd never make the cats without venturing into the dangers of the wasteland beyond Clownsteady's walls, the boyโnow a young manโset out at dawn, with naught but a rusted piece of iron and a new name for himselfโCutter. He'd let none stand in his way, cut through all before him.
The rest of the world, however, hadn't heard Cutter's inspired reasoning. Hours after leaving the comfort of civilization, he was already running for his life, a pack of blood spiders practically tasting his heels. Yet the brush with death wasn't without rewardโthey'd been attracted to the scent of blood, some skirmish a day or two past. Cutter'd been there first, and found himself a real sword within the carnage.
Passing through swamp and skirting around a frightening series of pillars rising from the ground, Cutter found himself in the lands claimed by the Shek. Too keen on survival to test his new sword, he watched a number of their factions war against one another from afar. They were often called savages, but their battle fascinated Cutter. There was savagery, yes. But that wasn't the whole storyโthere was art in their movement. The fluidity with which they maneuvered their oversized weapons, the brutal blows sustained to better their own attacks, and the merciless maiming when a blade found purchase in fleshโit was as if they were all a part of some masterful ballad to which only he was deaf.
Trailing a band of brigands, he seized the first opportunity he could to duel an isolated straggler. It was anything but a fair fight; the Scorchlander was limping hard before Cutter struck, and the first blow was dealt from the shadows. But as Cutter looked down, his own blood falling to mix with his foe's, he thought he heard whispers of music.
Shek lands were slim pickings for a hunter as selective as Cutter. Too many hardened by their battles, both victories and defeats. He'd continued north, to a fertile valley inhabited by hivers. He truly felt like an outsider there, and was even challenged to a duel. He wonโbut was overly eager to make use of their hospitality to nurse his wounds. As he lay on their hide bed, a feeling of homesickness fell upon him. But he realized he couldn't go back as he wasโall he had to show for his grand adventure were scars and a novice's grasp of swordplay. He had to impress his friends, show them he'd done what he'd set out to, and become more than some lowly thief.
Cutter sought such successes in the sizable swamp. He nearly found them, tooโa ruin, still largely unravaged by time or looters. Forcing his own entry with saws, crowbars, and rope, Cutter found his hope for heaps of loot dashedโfor the interior had been colonized by massive spiders. Careful to avoid their ire, he managed to pilfer only a small piece of strange machineryโin the intricate style of Skeletons. The prize didn't seem enough to truly impress, although it wasn't without value. A trader in the town of Shark offered him a backpack full of booze and narcotics for the relic. Accepting may have been a mistakeโCutter had no idea what it was truly worth. But he did know how much selling such vices could make him in the United Cities. He agreed, and by the time he returned home to Clownsteady, was richer than anyone he'd known.
The first thing he did was buy entry into the Shinobi, of course. But as he stood atop their tower, looking over his home, it all felt hollow. The wind was too cold, the walls smaller than he remembered, and the murmured sounds of the people below distant and ethereal. But somewhere, far away and from hard to find the direction of, he thought he heard a vibrant songโjust one musician, pouring his heart into the strings, setting the stage of some story not yet told. And that, was what Cutter wanted now. Not the praises of people who scarcely knew him, or just wanted to partake in his newfound wealthโrather, the ecstasy of battle, the near-divinity of letting the sword and song control him, devoting himself to the art and losing himself within it.
anyone know how to fix characters being able to walk through this hole? walling it off didnt seem to work. thankfully havent had any issues with any enemies or raids pathing through since they seem to prioritise the gate on the other side, but occasionally one of my workers will run through and get ganked by blood spiders.

Kenshi 2 is not being publicly tested. In fact, there's unlikely to be a beta phase of any kind. The game you get will be one which has been internally vetted but not publicly scrutinized. Kenshi 1 underwent a constant hazing and trial by fire to get to release. It did so, breaking Chris on occasion to mold into the game people are still playing.

I wish this game didn't have this "no bodily collission" thing. Seeing characters pushing their own limbs through solid matter or their own bodies during animations is annoying.
The Stenn Desert never changes. Some of the shek cows died before the Viera had time to bandage their bleeding wounds caused by crossbow bolts. All the sheks "donated" their planks to the Viera however. The pocket change must flow.

How many people here would like a more RPG-like Kenshi? As in a closer camera, more structured narratives (optional), and possibly more control over combat (prefer aiming for limbs versus center mass versus head for example)?
I haven't looked at Kenshi 2 stuff at all but personally have no interest in the base management, and like small squads so I'd just like the game to cater to me more of course.

>>528640617>closer cameraI'd recommend playing with a locked over-the-shoulder camera if you haven't already, and no map. There's some jank to it but it does feel much more engaging to me. Just, don't play a gimmick that requires you to recruit a bunch of chaff warriors. Five or fewer characters and it's good.
>structured narrativesWould be nice. I think the way Kenshi currently handles objectives fits its concept well, where you're just given vague untracked directions and you find your own way between here and there with no real need to actual complete them, but if there was just more of that, it'd be great.
>control over combatAbsolutely. I'd love it if they added a bunch of learnable stances in 2 that alter your moveset and have different limb prioritisation, but we'll see what they end up actually doing.

>>528651516Cutter anon here; you don't need to. The story that gets posted is HEAVILY edited/cut down from the gameplay. I use the game as inspiration for the story, but the story itself is really more of a fiction writing exercise set in the world of Kenshi. It only loosely follows what happens in my actual playthrough; with elements removed for conciseness and other aspects embellished or expounded upon for the sake of making a coherent narrative.
>>528652520No, pretty sure combat just stops all other actions and leaves the PC standing idle unless it has a job assigned to keep up with.
The move order is a one-time thing. You point the PC towards that point, it goes there, and if an enemy attacks it in the middle of that motion, it will keep running until it reaches that point and only then will it respond to the enemy's aggro automatically.

>>528649225The Shinobi Thieves are the independent feeder organization in league with the empire as a part of the intelligence network the Guild maintains.
Whilst the thieves have no notable presence in the holy lands they do have a tower nestled inside the Shek capitol. While the game explicitly asks the player to conduct the assassination of the Stone Golem... in a more responsive world the innocuous Thieves are a watch station planted by the Guild, monitoring the Queen's actions & movements, waiting for the go-ahead to execute the assassination whether or not the player is aware of what's going on. The Shek are too narrowminded to recognize ninjas without a banner can easily double as daggers for hire. It doesn't matter how well protected and powerful the Queen is. Her throat will slit just as easily as the rest (mind the bone plating).
It's not for everyone but I do find it fun running around the isle for awhile, wander into an empire bar and get met with the "Hey, did ya hear the horned Queen is no more?"
Giving the Shek internal momentum for resolving their ongoing civil war continues to be one of my favorite updates. Never quite know how it's going to resolve because there's always a chance the Guild gets its way long before the Kingdom solves their internal problems.
Odd quests at a hiver village. They didn't attack, they didn't trade, they didn't speak. They just passed by, menacingly.

>>528671776A position I've adopted is that the vanilla lore is closer to a template than a hard rule to follow. Guessing at why the Skeletons did what they did is in the realm of reaching. Establishing a more defined Guild-Thieves connection is a different ballgame, so to speak. The less LoFi did to create narratives (see Moll's buffoonery), the better. Longen already is the right person to utter that line. Be glad he didn't start groveling to the farmers the second they start taking over

>>528673096>the vanilla lore is closer to a template than a hard rule to followI mean, we ARE running based on the unreliable narrator with how the lore is almost entirely exposed through salvaged documents and the testimonies of a few nutjobs around the world, kinda like a Souls game.
So a lot of what is "established" could very well be a misinterpretation of the narrative, or straight up false.
>>528689825>So a lot of what is "established" could very well be a misinterpretation of the narrative, or straight up false. As much is implied by many interactions with Skeletons. The ruined books in World's End about Obedience. Iyo, the Librarian and Elder's private conversations with Skeleton players. Armour King, Quin & Dack, the whispers of the BDC Skeletons... they each hold their tongue once they tread into sensitive historical information. Why is it sensitive in the first place? That dynamic alone throws everything into question. The caution could be misdirection. The utterances could be fabrications. The lies could go as deep as the immortal machines please.
With them exiting the world stage the realities of power politics and force of will captures the social modality. Skeletons are controlling a narrative which has been irrelevant for years but is causing tremendous aberrations in the course of social progress. Which is why I think the current factions have more agency than they're given credit. The lack of a cohesive storyline implies the independent actors on the stage do matter and are of major consequence moving forward. And to that end the Guild (more broadly, the empire) are written as the protagonist faction by my measure of the situation. Chris once mused about his concern of if the factions were permitted too much ability to destroy each other the United Cities would take the island for themselves. Regardless of how precisely it was meant I saw it as instructive.
The future of the island and its folk are in flux. Maybe the Hivers win the demographic game by attrition. Perhaps the Holy Nation is forced to face its internal malaise and finally discovers the lost art of creating defensive gear with arm protection. Who knows, the crabs could breed like crazy and overrun the eastern coastline planting the seeds for the rise of the Greater Crabdom. Many things are possible. Except for Moll succeeding. That bitch is delusional and 100% an agent.
>>528695889Well, with the model the United Cities have running (slave-work, free market, micro-managing each city by putting a noble in charge of each one), if you handed them over control of the Holy Nation's farms, they would be the most powerful faction by a long shot and easily take over the rest of the moon, especially if they were running on this cold war-style aproach of spies and assansins operating on other factions' mayor cities, which would make taking care of Esata, the hive queens and any other threat a swift task.
I wonder, though. If the Shinobi Thieves are agents of the Traders' Guild, and the Shinobi Thieves are your go-to option for selling hashish inside the United Cities, does that mean that Longen is secretly operating an underground drug trafficking operation under the nobles' noses?
What if the Skeletons forced the ancient ones to play Kenshi 2, and it was so bad that it caused all of humanity to commit mass suicide, until Stobe sacrificed his CPU to make a mod good enough to make the game bearable for the remaining population that would proceed to delete their Steam accounts, burn their PCs and forget about the existence of computers entirely in order to keep their sanity?
I like when multiple attack slots allowed me to pick off small amounts of cannibals until I could isolate the leader and take him down with a small but overwhelming group of ~8, but when I'm the one getting my ass beat by a bunch of naked skeletons with Fragment Axes and much lower stats than my units just because they outnumber me 2 to 1, it does not feel as good
tough decisions but fewer attack slots will probably serve me better as long as I refuse to get more than 5 squad members
>>528697459>does that mean that Longen is secretly operating an underground drug trafficking operation under the nobles' noses?Heh, I guess you don't realize that's canon.
>The swampers? Oh, no sir, the swampers are really quite profitable for us. Best to leave them be.The swamp gangs are specifically empire adjacent. Non-aligned actors because they're permitted to operate outside the legal bounds. The smuggling is facilitated by the guild to manage the corrupting influences in the military police system. Local guards are brought into the fold and of course the nobility are obliged to respond with a semblance of enforcing order. The Guild creates the arrested development on purpose, profits from it and plagues the nobility with a vice and tool for baiting those susceptible into blackmailable situations.
The drug war is a fairly well understood mechanism of social control for the poor, pleasure-seekers, criminally-minded and easily corrupted authorities.
The most frightening development in the empire, quite possibly across the whole of the civilized island, is the central bank in Heng. Everyone, even (especially!) the Hives trade in the common currency, controlled by one unified faction. How one does that line about control of a money supply go again? The merchant bankers coup in the Red Rebellion was so complete that the populace have just barely caught on to the puppetry in motion after segment of the population we relegated to permanent rebels and another swathe thrown in the slave camps as a matter of course. Oops, you've been taken over by some currency manipulators.
I like that more attack slots makes low tier units a credible threat throughout the game and that armies of enemies are incredibly dangerous to even a fully maxed fighter if they're caught alone, but it also trivialises many fights in a really anticlimactic way and tends to turn every battle into a tight messy blobfest and just generally detracts from the combat experience. Unless you're playing starcraft, I think one slot is best - maybe two could be okay? I just wish it was a more modular variable, like being able to change it for specific character types rather than whole race types, and being able to set the number of outgoing attacks, rather than it only setting the number of possible incoming attacks.
>>528673096>ohhh nooo I was wrong, glory to the proletariat!!!!I expect to see such line in Kenshi 2.

>>528697459>Longen is secretly operating an underground drug trafficking operation under the nobles' nosesWhy wouldn't he?
>>528699065You might be onto something...
>>528707817Chris made this game with 1 vs 1 combat in mind. While it is logical for 5 men to attack 1 target - it would allow a group of starvers to defeat an Oni skeleton. Which isn't logical.
>>528712602>Why wouldn't he?He's the main force moving the economy in the empire. Wouldn't it be more profitable to use his influence to legalise drugs and use his proxies in the Swamps to become the main hashish seller in the United Cities? Or is it a better scheme to keep it like this?
>>528709278I wonder if Chris understands how his world-building at times looks clever. I doubt Chris doubts any normie-stream narratives himself though.
>>528709746It would be interesting if the higher one's skill with a weapon - the more attack slots he has. It will keep the chaff able to attack only 1 target, while small groups of professionals would be able to deal with any threats.
>>528713201all I can reply is - "look at the things those 3-letters agencies are doing IRL".
>>528713201Personally, I think attack slots should break the symmetry between player and NPCs. NPCs should have limited attack slots (1 or maybe 2 for generic unnamed ones), but the player characters should have 3. The goal would be to keep the silliness of having one guy solo a hundred bandits down, but also allow for powerful NPCs to have some leeway while outnumbered.
It's frustrating to have five guys and most of them just stand and watch while their friend gets his ass beat, but also destroys the since of respect and fear for great fighters if you can gangbang them. The latter is just more important IMO. As for players not getting cut similar slack, the reality is the game works best when it seems everything is a challenge and the odds are always against you. Having a few score of dust bandits show up shouldn't just be a chore, but a credible threat for a small party.
Also, large creatures should have more attack slots. I think they actually do vanilla, so breaking the precedent isn't unheard of. But you shouldn't have to 1v1 a leviathan.
>>528717895They don't - Beak Things simply have large "attack hit box" to pass it as AoE.
>>528717895They do. People have 1, Bulls and Garrus have 2, Gorillos and Beak Things have 3, Leviathans have 6, etc.

The two oni bots are losing. Free entertaiment for the Viera. Once the bots are down - they will be robbed as well.

you can try herding a group of trash enemies to some guards and target them when the melee starts. micro your guy to be behind as many guards as possible. i've had the guards agro on me a few times after. maybe a bolt hit them right after all the nearby enemies went down? Anyway, take them somewhere guarded by humans with smaller weapons, shek guards hit really hard with big sweeping attacks and will mow down all the enemies before you can get any real training in.
It is time to visit a Holy city. Hopefully the Holy men will buy the spices, and not try to arrest the Viera for being tall rabbit women in mini-skirts...
Amazingly enough, no Holy man tried to arrest the Viera. The barman of the local bar was absent however, so Umiko listened to a local MemriTV representative for a while. Umiko didn't hear anything new. Other than that, the locals avoided looking at her. The other foreigners in the bar - mercenaries - didn't pay her any attention either. Umiko felt invisible. She wasn't sure how to feel about it.
I built a house in the swamp, but since I spent all my cats on building materials I couldn't pay off the Stone Rats when they came asking for protection money. They're honestly not very threatening, but I don't really want to fight them. Where can I go to pacify them?

>>528725901I've been flip flopping between native and three for the past few runs. Four and five were just too messy for me, haven't tried two. I do think three is 'balanced' in that it equalises the strength of each combatant enough, where a powerful warrior can still wipe a handful of weaker ones but isn't completely immune to them but it also doesn't devolve into monkeys with sticks killing god by sheer volume. It's okay for certain runs.
>>528754529Serious reform in the middle of a spitroast war is unlikely to end well, but it might also be the push necessary for it to emerge. Compare it to WW2 USA's need for a greater workforce giving a boost to women's suffrage movements. Consider some sequence of events where the UC assassinates the Stone Golem, the Sheks launch an assault on the HN without her at the reigns, Flotsam/Cannibal/Fogmen pressure from the north spreads their forces thin, UC forces push them out of Bast, maybe the currently overzealous Phoenix dies and a more malleable one rises, so on. A faction offering strength through loosening their technophobia and misogyny could easily find some ears in such a situation, especially since the current HN is the most regressive it's ever been and it used to be quite a lot more temperate in the past.

Peak Kenshi
Despite the assumptions gathered from rumors and information from the foreigners - Umiko could enter a Holy temple freely. No Holy man tried to shoo her away. She looked at the praying Holy men. No-one paid attention to her. When Umiko tried to bother a Holy Minister - he asked her with an annoyed voice where is Umiko's man. It took some self-restrain for Umiko to not make that bold Holy man "her" man - she could haul him away like a sack of flour quite easily. All in all this expedition is weird, disappointing, and profitless.
The Holy Men may refuse to buy the supplies off of the hands of the Viera, but their military surgeon in the Holy Military Base near the Fog Islands doesn't care who brings spices to his clinic. The man has his culinary priorities. And the Viera now have some extra money and medkits.
Mongrel makes no sense - the shop owners were lukewarm about buying spices from the Viera. They still agreed to buy the sacks, but the proft was about 30% per sack - about 5 to 10 times less what the Viera wanted initially. As the rabbit women left Mongrel - they found suitable targets to vent out their frustration on. These abominations should have stayed in their hiding holes today.

>>528791232Barely. The Western Hive sustains the Shek as a buffer state and trades their cheap goods to them for an implicitly agreed peace. This infuriates the Guild who would much prefer the Shek continue committing suicide by Okranite sword.

>>528928540Band of Bones have a takeover at Grayflayer Vilage. It's really not explored but mid-game Shek state dynamics should/could lead to spread into the Swamplands (because the Okranite lands are unassailable) and the Hivers are neutrally aligned with the Shek. The push towards conflict with empire-adjacent factions would ensure the UC would start throwing money and means at ways to see Esata's head lopped off. Client states are supposed to follow orders - and that means buy the damn planks and throw yourselves at the holy rollers, or else.
