sonic isn't that special or unique, not even in japan. it hasn't been creator driven since 2001. it's been a brand BRAND franchise since 2004's "Year of Sonic" with Heroes and X watering down the franchise and making it into the Dragon Ball Super-esque safe franchise slop it continues to be today.
all of this hemming and hawing over "the proper direction for the franchise" is fucking pointless because the proper direction for the franchise died when the sega console division died. Sonic 2, S3&K, SA1, SA2, and even the OVA were peak. You're never getting that again. Sonic as a BRAND franchise can't be an industry leader because creativity no longer drives the series, a marketing and legal department does! (And it hasn't been that way since before most of you fags were even born)
