Crash was always more popular than Sonic, no matter how many Sonic fans will say otherwise. There's also that Team Racing Nitro-Fueled came out during the peak of Crash's popularity, meanwhile the Sonic franchise was struggling to stay relevant since Sega was pandering to people that didn't like Sonic at all or only cared for the Genesis era at best.
