Basically make it Elden Ring: open world but with chokepoints the player has to pass through in a certain order so there is a sense of structure and progression to the game. Large locations that can be considered their own dungeons and reward you with permanent upgrades and a unique boss fight. Smaller locations that serve as smaller size dungeons. Get rid of the fucking shrines. Don't be afraid to lock certain parts of game until the player has found and item/spell/key whatever.
