Oh I'm not saying it's new, but with each newer generation it's more common and normalized. With millenials it was mostly just hipsters and people who's dream was to become a standup comedian. The teenagers today it's basically just the default where they're afraid to even capitalize the first letter of a sentence lest they get called a tryhard by their peers.
