Anon it broke that ceiling with the TV ratings. A niche series shouldn't get this high but it did because the story was able to appeal far beyond its niche. The sales ultimately never caught up but it other ways it still went past its niche appeal. Again the problem is getting people to buy the manga, people don't have a problem consuming the story in adapted form even though its the same narrative.
