What nuance is there to nuking two cities full of civilians? In times of war, combatants must make every reasonable attempt to minimize civilian casualties. It's a war crime when civilians are the targets and not merely collateral damage. Killing 100,000 civilians with a single weapon is an act of genocide. We all recognize these rules of war outside of the context of WWII, but the Truman Administration and US State Department created ex post facto justifications for why the nukes were necessary by claiming Japan was uniquely evil and fanatical like they were Zerg from Starcraft or something.
