the secret is, I'm just never truly happy with the small sprites but as long as they aren't too goofy and match the larger sprites I'm fine with it.

Animation helps a ton. Even shitty small sprites look much better with animations. It's a shame I didn't build for animations, instead I just have keyframes.
I dunno. all you can really do is practice, small sprites suck
