The executive producer says they will go horror on the next one (assuming there is a next one.) I liked M3GAN as a hero, so I'm wondering how they would do it without reversing M3GAN's character development. It would be lame if she just went "lol I was just kidding I was a bad guy all along," so hopefully they would have a better justification.

What's wrong with MGAN 3.0? They just use the horizontal lines for M3GAN's name in posters/promotional material so the 3 in her name doesn't throw people off.
