Mute, faceless characters in media were always to be vessels for the player to insert themselves into. For me, I had related to the empty vessel itself as that was the closest reflection to me, and was more of the ideal I wanted to reach as to be as far removed from my actual flesh as possible. Perhaps that's why I always hated when such characters were ensouled or would take off their masks. Wonder if anyone else here felt a similar way.
