I also avoided Moonrise. Until it conflicted with the Shadowfell message. I thought I would need to sneak inside, too, so I went through the back and thought I would simply need to smash a single paladin before the second one made their way back.
The Emperor and Jaheira tell you you can infiltrate them, and then the fact that you're given a means to enter the darkest area of the shadow curse.
