It has been too long since I watched the anime and I missed a ton of episodes but iirc Maya is introduced as a rather selfish merchant that doesn't trust people. That webm is her backstory, localized as just a beatdown. She was poor but built a cart of her own and tried to sell off apples, and then that happened to her. Which is why she always keeps her distance and only trusts her poring.
