Maybe introduce something to grind for that doesn't completely fuck over the average match balance and thus, player willingness to play?
I have multiple metal rank friends who haven't touched ranked because they're still traumatized from getting shit on by smurfs and former GM/Celestials. Doesn't seem like a very effective way of keeping players "grinding" to me.
