The protestant legacy is literacy, puritanism in particular pursued literacy above all other forms of artistic expression. It's not by chance that 50% of the top 500 authors of all time are american. The American romantic period is almost entirely literary works and although many of those works are critical of puritanism, it's undeniable that those criticisms are launched from the literary cultural foundation that puritins put in place.
Fear not though, you are about to enter a new age of techno-literacy. You will have new priests to preach to you from on high, and you will not have the capability to refute nor resist their commands, and you will remain there until a new protestant movement emerges.
