The only reason the Brahmins seethed about the Greater Magadhan regions (which included the Śākyas) was that they placed Kṣatriyas above Brahmins, even in the ritual and religious sense.
They were still an Indo-Aryan tribe, still spoke Sanskrit, and still fell under the Mahājanapadas.
