Yeah that was a lie. There's a very niche group of people in Japan interested in Power Rangers and it's usually a novelty and for comparison.
But Harry Potter when the first movie came out was huge in Japan. Japanese media constantly made references to it.
Now, it's still insanely popular despite it's popularity being on and off elsewhere in the world.
I'm not saying it was the main like reference point of Magiranger but that it got them to choose the magic and mythology motifs and tropes.
