The idea was to take parts of their physiology to make biotech. Either armor, suits, ranged weapons, etc. Semi-organic technology that can merge better with humans than straight computer and metal. It's a neat scifi idea. Just making them something to drop from orbit that would run around with claws and kill people is stupid though.
