Making games that people don't enjoy (aka bad) is illogical from both a monetary standpoint and an entertainment standpoint, which are the two goals that videogames are primarily supposed to achieve. This isn't a movie, or a book, it's a game and people play games so gameplay is a factor here. Most people don't care that you want a unique and quirky game, they want something that feels good to play.
The feedback on the melee system is pretty much universally negative, and just ignoring it won't change that. They could take that feedback, delay the game, iterate on new systems until they find one that people enjoy because honestly the melee/shield mechanic from Dune is one of the most retarded and clunky I have ever experienced in a game. You can't have a game with an endgame primarily focused on PvP where the PvP is terrible.
