I just think they're overwritten and clash with the rest of the game.
You could remove the class stories entirely, shuffle a few things around (remove intro cutscenes, give you your ship some other way, increase XP for planetary arcs), and the game would be fine.
The class story companions are also lame and pointless, but I guess that's a different topic.
