Bullshit. The .280 Brit was more in line with 7.62x39.
Which means a SCHV replacement would be issued and the FAL ditched anyway. Even the Brits eventually developed a 4.85mm round based on the 5.56x45 case because of the studies indicating that within typical engagement distances, and before body armor became common, small bullets that yawed could deal almost as much tissue damage as larger but slower bullets that icepicked in and out before yaw.
