The Word of God teaches us that we cannot know what is morally right on our own. We have a fallen sin nature. We are just evil by ourselves. Only the proud will deny this.

And it's not just that we will lead ourselves astray, but we actively have an enemy (the devil) who helps cause us to definitely be led astray.
