The Knight is Kris' hand, that was lost during the bunker/forest incident. It was replaced by a goner hand to control him, the same hand he uses to rip out the SOUL (you can't do that normally). "Friend inside me" refers to a bit of kris being inside the night, FRIEND is just another manifestation of the knight.
