Price and availability have been the two factors I believe doom post-MMPR teams in recent years. Do people like Wild Force enough to spend $20+ per figure, and for one Ranger to be trickled out at a time at random with no end in sight or any guarantee the team will ever be completed at all? Now imagine if you did care enough to go in on the team, only for the line to be canceled after only having given you 2/6 Rangers and a Putrid.

Zeo is a very popular team, arguably the most popular post-MMPR, and it was fortunate enough to get a full team release in the Lightning Collection, but look at the hoops you had to jump through to get them. Gold Ranger initially released in a con exclusive two-pack. Then Blue released in a standard wave 8 months later. Then a standard release Gold 4 months later. Red 3 months later. Green 5 months later. Yellow 10 months later. Finally, Zeo Pink in a store exclusive two-pack with MMPR Pink a month later. A Pulse exclusive Cog two-pack was released between Green and Yellow, and a solo Cog was released in a standard wave a few months after Pink. The solo Cog was the only way to get Rocky's personal weapon. All-in, it took over two and a half years to complete the full team after the first release, and they poorly matched each other, having inconsistent paint apps. Many people didn't become interested until the full team had been announced, and by that point at least Blue's aftermarket price got quite high.

Now imagine Playmates releasing the full Zeo team in one fell swoop with a Mondo, Gasket and Archerina in the same assortment for $12 a piece. All the Rangers have their personal weapons, all their paint apps match each other. Say what you will about the quality of the Playmates figures, but those are gonna be much more likely to sell.
